FAA Safety Bulletin for Homebuilts with Certain Stall Characteristics

The FAA has released a safety bulletin regarding amateur-built airplanes operating under an experimental airworthiness certificate and possessing particular stall characteristics, which may include high wing loading and stall speeds in excess of 61 knots.

A couple weeks back, Gerry Hornick, of Chardon, Ohio, was in Virginia picking up his Cherokee 180, which had just undergone an engine overhaul. Back home his wife took a call from EAA headquarters that Gerry was the winner in the Ultimate Oshkosh Experience contest conducted through EAA’s online community, Oshkosh365.

Barriers Lowered for LSA Flying in Canada

A recent revision by Transport Canada (TC) makes it more affordable and less cumbersome for light-sport aircraft from the United States to be flown into Canada. TC’s new Standardized Validation form, the equivalent to the operating limitations for experimental aircraft in the U.S., puts LSA on equal footing with U.S. amateur-built aircraft flying into Canada.

Former AOPA President John Baker Passes Away

John Lee Baker, the second president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) who served from 1977-1990, passed away on Thursday, March 11, at his home in Angier, North Carolina, at the age of 81.
